What is "ministry" to you? What are some ways you have ministered to others and served the Lord as a young woman pursuing godliness?
Dear Kaysie,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I"m not quite sure what you meant by "ministry". What did you mean?
I haven't really had many chances to minister to others very much... at least, people outside of the Church. But I do try to always set a good example of Christ to other people... which I would fail miserably at if it weren't for Jesus.
To me, when I think of ministering, I think of trying to act Godly and doing things pleasing to HIm. One way in which I struggle with that is in containing my temper, being respectful, and knowing the right time to talk and when you are overpowering a conversation. If I see someone who is constantly yelling, never letting anyone else talk, or just doesn't behave very well; my first instinct would be to avoid that person. Fortunetly I don't know anyone who is always doing those things! So as far as empacting other believers in a probably very small way, for me it's just not being afraid to talk about God when it would help that person even when you might sound silly, and just trying act Christ like.
So all that was to say that in my somwhat inclosed world, that's how I would answer you question. (sorry that took so long, and sorry that that probably didn't make any sense, because I really didn't understand the question)

Oooh.....my topic!! I think ministry is anything we do that brings God the glory. That doesn't just mean church activities. Serving a neighbor is ministry. Family can be a ministry!
ReplyDeleteAs an unmarried daughter at home - I see my first ministry is to my family (to seek to serve them and minister to them, encourage them, and cultivate deeper relationship with them).
ReplyDeleteHowever, during this season, the Lord can use us to be devoted to His service - perhaps accomplishing things we wouldn't be able to if we were married. I think if the Lord opens a door of ministry and we have His peace and direction and the blessing of our parents - then that is a ministry we can fulfill and bring honour and glory to Christ and bless others along the way. (ie. ministering to mothers in the church, widows and the elderly, or even keeping "occupied" with a small ministry/business, etc.)
My father and I have always felt that it is a good thing to keep occupied and busy during our single years until "he" - whether that's Christ or a future husband - appears on the scene! :) You don't want to waste precious time twiddling your thumbs waiting for something that might not be God's blessing at the moment.
I think everybody has a ministry, whether it's by being kind to your siblings in public, (and at home!) or by helping your neighbor.
ReplyDeleteAnd since I am at home, my ministry is to serve my father, my family, and my Heavenly Father!
To me, ministry is exactly what Ella said it to be, anything we can do that brings glory to God. We don't have to have a "title" or tax credit number - we simply must be obedient to what God has placed in our hearts to do.
ReplyDeleteAn example of a "ministry" God has directed me to do is to use some of my spare time to write letters to people. Whether it be my grandparents in a distant state, and hurting friend, or a simple thank-you note for a thoughtful deed, anything and anyone God brings to mind is a good candidate for a handwritten note. I have had many people respond with a testimony of God using the note(s) to bless their day, minister to their heart, or just know that someone cares for them.
Each girl's ministry is different and special. With prayer and patience, God will reveal your unique ministry to you.
"A ministry is anything that brings glory to God." Amen! I especially agree with Ella; I believe that family can definitely be a very strong ministry that have the power to impact others for Christ.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many other ways that we can minister to others! For myself, music is one of those. People are blessed by hearing my family play our instruments for them, hearing songs that we've written and composed. I never really thought of it as a ministry (it isn't an official ministry/organization if you know what I mean...), but I see now that it is. We can bring glory to God just through a little music!
All young ladies pursuing godliness have a powerful ministry right before them, even though they may not notice it! Many of us don't realize the power and impact we as young ladies make when we act in a modest, pure, feminine and godly manner. Even that's a ministry!
Thanks for letting me share my thoughts! :-) God bless you all!
